UCC ALUMNUS SUPPORTS DEPARTMENT OF CROP SCIENCE WITH A COMPUTER AND ACCESSORIES.

An alumnus of the Department of Crop Science of the School of Agriculture, University of Cape Coast (UCC), Mr Stephen Ashia, has presented a new Dell desktop computer and accessories worth GH¢15,000 to his alma mater.

Mr Stephen Ashia, the Manager and Chief Executive Officer of Organic and FT Cooperatives, Go Green Environmental and Sustainability Consult, and ABOCFA cooperative of Suhum, said the gesture was to enhance the Department of Crop Science’s work.

Mr. Ashia, who completed the BSc Agriculture programme at UCC in 2005, observed that modern technology is needed for the Department of Crop Science to function effectively.

In a message read on his behalf at the presentation, he said the item was to express his appreciation for the training he received from the School of Agriculture and the Department of Crop Science some years ago.

Mr. Ashia added that the Department unearthed and groomed his talent resulting in his personal growth. He further assured the Department that he was committed to doing more in the future.

The Head of the Department of Crop Science, Prof. Michael Osei Adu,  who received the equipment on behalf of the Department, expressed his appreciation for the donation.

“We once again want to say a big thank you to Mr. Stephen Ashia for responding to our calls for support,” he stated.

He noted that Stephen’s generosity is a testament to UCC’s alumni’s strong bonds and sense of community towards their alma mater.

Prof. Adu said, like little Oliver, the Department continues to seek the support of all alums and well-meaning individuals to advance the Department’s cause. He urged all past students of the Department to return and give back to their alma mater. The Head of Department assured the donor that the item would be used properly and cared for.

For his part, the Dean of the School of Agriculture, Prof. Henry De-Graft Acquah, expressed excitement about the donation. He commended the alumnus for the support, which was encouraging and exemplary.

He also urged the Department to care for the equipment for maximum benefit.

In a remark, a former Pro Vice-Chancellor of UCC, Prof. John Nelson Buah,  expressed gratitude to the former student for the donation and reiterated the need for the School of Agriculture to encourage alumni to support its academic activities.
